My name is Aldo Ianni.
I am a staff researcher at the
Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso. My research interests lie in the field
of astroparticle physics (at the intersection between particle physics,
astrophysics and cosmology). This is a new field in which researchers work to solve the
problem of dark matter, to observe neutrinos from the sun and supernovae, to search and
understand the origin of high energy cosmic rays, to determine whether a
neutrino is a so-called Majorana or Dirac particle. These items offer a great opportunity to open a
new window in our understanding of how elementary particles interact to each
other. This field has already provided the first evidence of physics beyond the
so-called Standard Model, with the discovery of neutrino oscillations. The Gran
