COLD PREAMPLIFIER

EQUIPMENT

This project is focused on building a criogenic preamplifier for dark matter experiments.

The preamplifier has to meet the following requisites:
  • High radiopurity
To be used inside the dark matter experiments. All components will be screened; moreover the PCB will be teflon based.
  • Criogenic friendly
To be used inside the liquid gas dark matter experiment. The circuit should be able to work in liquid nitrogen as well as room temperature with the same parameters.
  • Custom input matching
To maximize the energy transfer from photodetector to the amplifier proper matching has to be used, typically at impedance higher than 50 Ω.

Moreover the design has to be as simple as possible to reduce the failure risk and the power dissipation should be limited to few hundreds of mW.

The R&D on QUPIDs started in 2011 in collaboration with the University of California within the DarkSide project. In 2012 it became an official INFN project sponsored by Commissione Scientifica Nazionale 5.
